How to
Keep Kids Safe From Strangers
There are so many dangers out
there for us to teach our children. One place where
the kids are meant to feel completely safe is the
home.
This is where a lot of
kids and parents would not expect the dangers from the
outside world to come in a get them. However it is
possible and that is why it is important to teach our
children how to keep themselves safe from all the bad
possibilities of the world.
One thing that we have
to make sure our kids know is to never open the door to a
stranger.
At any moment a person
that wants to do harm to our home or child can knock at
the door. Teach your kid to look
out a window first and if they recognize the person tell
them to ask who it is to be sure. If they are not
sure who it is and they are alone, they should not say
anything and keep the door locked. Wait for the
person to go away or call an adult on the
phone.
If the child is not
alone and there is a stranger at the door, have an adult
answer it. We must make our children aware of all
the stranger dangers that are out there and what
potential harm they can do to us.
The same goes with the
phone. If a child is at home alone, they may want
to let the machine get it and then pick it up if the
caller is someone that they know. If the telephone
does not have a machine, the child may have to answer
it.
In these cases if a
child is alone, they should never announce it. If a
person asks for their parent they should tell them they
are unavailable or they are busy and can they call them
right back. This would be a good way to get the
person on the other end to believe that there is someone
there, so in case they are a danger, they may be scared
off.
Teach your child to go with
their instinct. If they feel they are not sure
about something or if they have given too much
information out on the phone, tell them to call someone
they trust immediately. When they are scared let
them know that they can call on someone and they will
make sure that they are ok.
These things are
important in order to keep the children safe from
potential dangers that are lingering out
there.
